Introduction to Calligraphy

*This workshop is suitable for those with no experience in calligraphy as well as for those who would like to refine their skills. *

A great way to learn a new skill is to join a workshop for some face-to-face time. The benefits of joining a workshop is that it allows you to ask questions and get advice on methods and ways to improve your new skill.

In this three hours workshop, we will get down to the nitty gritty details of calligraphy from how to put on a nib to proper posture when writing. We will focus on lowercases as we plough through worksheets specially prepared for you to help you better understand the proper way to do calligraphy. We will finish off with a quick intro to uppercase letters.

You will learn:

• simple pen to paper exercise to get warmed up,

• the drills to get the fundamentals going,

• the basic strokes so that you have the right foundation, and

• practice writing on worksheets to help with muscle memory and understanding.

You get to bring home all the supplies provided at the workshop so you can continue practicing! What do you get?

• A moblique pen (colour of your choice depending on availability)

• nibs

• a small jar of quality walnut ink,

• a set of notes & worksheets,

• a set of lowercase and uppercase examplars,

• guidelines, and

• a handy dandy paper bag to take it all home!
